Dear Salmon River Parents, Caregivers and Students,
As we embark on another exciting school year at Salmon River Central School District, I want to extend a heartfelt welcome back to all our families and students. We are thrilled to have you with us and are eager to work together to make this year a successful and fulfilling experience for every student. Parents, your partnership with us is essential for your child’s educational journey.
Our commitment this year is to support the academic and emotional well-being of every student. We recognize that in order for students to excel academically, they must also feel supported socially and emotionally.
To this end, we are dedicated to ensuring that each student feels they belong at Salmon River CSD. Our goal is for every student to have a trusted adult they can turn to for support. According to the American Psychological Association, students who have access to supportive adults are more likely to engage in their learning and exhibit higher levels of motivation and academic achievement (APA, 2015).
We also strive to have a caring and competent teacher in every classroom. Our teachers are committed to providing a nurturing and effective educational experience, and we are confident in their ability to inspire, guide our students and provide a high-quality education.
Moreover, we emphasize the importance of regular school attendance. Studies from the Attendance Works organization demonstrate that students who attend school consistently are more likely to achieve higher academic outcomes and develop stronger social and emotional skills (Balfanz & Boccanfuso, 2013). Therefore, with your partnership, we encourage families to ensure that students attend school every day and make the most of their learning opportunities.
To inspire increased attendance, as well as improved social-emotional wellbeing and a better sense of belonging, all our school buildings will become largely phone free for students this year. While we understand that phones are a major part of our everyday lives, the benefits of having our students fully engaged with their teachers and classmates are invaluable. More details about these procedures can be found in the handbook your student will be bringing home.
We are excited about the potential of this school year and are here to support your child’s journey every step of the way. We want all students to feel empowered to participate in extra-curricular activities where they can meet new friends, enhance social skills, learn new things and be a part of a team. Together, we can create an environment where every student feels valued, supported and inspired to reach their fullest potential.
Welcome back, and here’s to a fantastic year ahead!
