NYSED Office of Indigenous Education recognizes Salmon River student artwork

The New York State Education Department (NYSED) is shining a spotlight on the artistic talents of Salmon River students by showcasing their work on its Office of Indigenous Education website.

The featured pieces are sprinkled throughout the site and are prominently featured in a dedicated Student Art Gallery, highlighting projects that reflect both creativity and cultural significance.

One project comes from a high school graphic design student who used a Wacom 1-to-1 tablet to create a digital image honoring the experiences of Indigenous students who were forced to attend residential boarding schools in the United States and Canada.

In addition, a Studio Art class composed of students in grades 9-12 completed an illustration project where they depicted their names in creative ways. Each illustration incorporated the meaning of their name and personal elements they wanted to share about themselves.

NYSED’s Office of Indigenous Education expressed its gratitude to the student artists for sharing their work and encouraged future submissions. This recognition underscores the importance of student voices in celebrating Indigenous culture and history through art.
