The New York State Public High School Athletic Association has named Salmon River High School a Scholar-Athlete School of Excellence.
This designation is reserved for schools based on their commitment to both academics and athletics. In order to achieve this award, 75% of a school’s varsity teams must qualify and receive the Scholar-Athlete team award. For the Scholar-Athlete award, 5% of the roster’s cumulative average grade point average must be greater than or equal to 90.
NYSPHSAA plans to give Salmon River High School a plaque to honor this achievement at a local athletic director workshop this fall. A total of 148 schools across New York received the School of Excellence Award for the 2021-22 school year.
“The School of Excellence and School of Distinction Awards highlight the best student-athletes in New York State”, said NYSPHSAA Executive Director Dr. Robert Zayas in a press release. “For 234 member schools to be honored for their commitment to academics as well as athletics is a testament to the outstanding leadership and student-athletes we have in this state.”
